A record 123 people hospitalised in a day with dengue cases soaring
1430 people have been detected with dengue in 26 days of July
Bangladesh saw a rise in dengue cases with a record 123 people detected with the mosquito-borne disease in the past 24 hours.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), of the 123 patients, 120 are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals in Dhaka, while three were outside Dhaka until Monday.
Currently, 468 people are being treated at different hospitals across the country. Of them, 460 are from the capital city of Dhaka. Of the remaining eight, six are from Dhaka division, and one each from Khulna and Mymensingh divisions respectively.

63 people, the highest number of dengue patients at any single medical facility, were admitted to Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in Dhaka. Among the other hospitals in Dhaka, 59 dengue patients are being treated at SSMC and Mitford Hospitals. There are 51 dengue patients in Islami Bank Central Hospital in Kakrail, 36 in Central Hospital, and 22 are being treated at Dhaka Children's Hospital.
According to the DGHS, 1,802 dengue cases have been recorded since January. Of them, 1,331 patients were released until Monday morning. Of the 1,802 dengue cases registered, 1430 people were diagnosed with dengue in 26 days of July.
The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has received reports on three suspected dengue deaths so far this year.
According to DGHS, this year 32 patients were diagnosed with dengue in January, nine in February, 13 in March, three in April, and 43 in May.
However, the number of dengue patients increased significantly in June and 272 people were detected with the mosquito-borne disease.
Public health experts fear many dengue patients might be undiagnosed as symptoms of the fever are quite similar to those of Covid-19.
