Health camp brings essential services to remote indigenous school in Bandarban

A two-day health camp was held on 19–20 September at Pawmum Tharkla, a remote indigenous school in Lama, Bandarban, organised by the Dhaka Medical College Local Committee (DMCLC) in collaboration with Dreamers Consultation and Research.
Titled "Little Champs of Our Hills," the programme focused on child health screening and menstrual hygiene education for adolescent girls and mothers from indigenous communities.
Day one of the camp included full health check-ups for children, covering malnutrition assessment, vision screening, scabies treatment, and the distribution of essential medicines for school storage.
Day two featured an interactive session for adolescent girls and mothers on menstrual hygiene awareness. The session aimed to break taboos, share knowledge, promote safe practices, and distribute sanitary napkins.
Beyond healthcare, children participated in fun activities such as a dart competition and showcased their knowledge of the Mro language, making the camp both engaging and educational.
The initiative was supported by medical professionals, including Dr Tablu Abdul Hanif (Professor, Neonatal and Pediatric Surgery, DMCH), Dr Faizur Rahman Fahim (Associate Professor of Medicine, DMCH), Dr Mohammad Ilias (Assistant Professor, Ad-din Medical College Hospital), and Dr Sanjida Sultana (BMC), who provided funding alongside Shifa Battery Pvt. Ltd.
The DMCLC of the Bangladesh Medical Students' Society (BMSS) expressed hope to continue such initiatives in the future, ensuring that healthcare and awareness reach even the most remote corners of Bangladesh.
