In a written question, Md Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, MP from Pabna-5, sought to know which projects are currently classified as fast-track and by when all national highways in the country could be upgraded to six and eight lanes.
In response, Rabiul said, "Projects being implemented under the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), under the Road Transport and Highways Division, are considered fast-track projects. However, no ongoing project under the Roads and Highways Department is currently classified as a fast-track project.'"
He further said that the fast-track projects under DMTCL at present include MRT Line-6, MRT Line-1, MRT Line-5 (Northern Route) and MRT Line-5 (Southern Route).
The minister also said that the total length of highways across the country under the Roads and Highways Department stands at 22,736.580km.
Of this, 883.61km are four-lane highways, 10,488km are six-lane highways and 17.347km are eight-lane highways, he added.
