The government has taken an initiative to establish a new employment department to boost job facilities in the country, Labour and Employment Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hussain has said.
"The government has undertaken the initiative to establish a new employment department to enhance facilities in the labour market," he said, while paying a call on the director general of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Gilbert F Houngbo in Geneva recently.
The adviser sought the ILO's technical support to ensure a safe work environment and the implementation of labour law in the country.
He highlighted the government's reform and development initiatives taken for the labour sector.
He mentioned an amendment to the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006 and an easy registration system of the trade union. The adviser also informed the director general about the strengthening of labour inspection in the country.
Sakhawat Hussain elaborately informed the government's initiatives about new employment generation, developing new entrepreneurs, ship breaking and ensuring safe work environment in the industrial sector.
The Labour and Employment Secretary AHM Shafiquzzaman was present on the occasion.
