‘Govt formulating policies to protect poultry, dairy industries’

Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim has said the government is formulating policies to protect the poultry and dairy industries.

The minister said this at a meeting with representatives of the Animal Health Companies Association of Bangladesh (AHCAB) and the Bangladesh Agro Feed Ingredients Importers and Traders Association (BAFIITA) at the conference room of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock at the Secretariat in the capital on Wednesday.

He said poultry and dairy industries would be given maximum benefits through the policies, and steps would be taken by the ministry to overcome the existing obstacles.

"Many domestic industries have been affected due to Covid-19. At the same time, there is no alternative to developing the poultry and dairy industries to revive the rural economy of Bangladesh, alleviate poverty, create entrepreneurs, meet the nutritional and protein needs of the people, and increase the body's resistance to diseases."

Addressing the representatives of the AHCAB and the BAFIITA, the minister further said, "As business owners, you have a responsibility to maintain stability in the country, the market, and the economy. Poultry and cattle feed prices should be kept stable and the market should be controlled so that the government does not have to monitor it."

"We have to work for our mutual interest. We will cooperate with you, but you also have to cooperate with the government."

Later, the representatives of the associations assured the meeting that they would take immediate action to keep the poultry and cattle feed market stable.
