Govt decides to modify police uniform, retains previous shirt, introduces khaki pants
“It will take some time before they start wearing it, as production of fabric and preparation are required,” he added, noting that the decision had not yet been officially declared but was announced today.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said the government has decided to modify the police uniform, keeping the shirt while introducing khaki-coloured pants.
He made the remarks today (4 May) after the first meeting of the National Committee on coordination, management, and law and order related to forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals (Rohingya), held at the Secretariat.
Responding to a question on the progress of the police uniform change, the minister said dissatisfaction with the current uniform exists both among police personnel and the public.
"We have observed that across the country and within the police force, there is a lack of satisfaction with the existing uniform. The current design has not been widely accepted," he said.
He added that the government considered introducing a more traditional and acceptable dress.
"The previous shirt - used earlier for metro areas and nationwide - has been retained. However, pants have been changed to khaki," he said.
The minister noted that the decision was made after detailed discussions with the police to ensure the new uniform is widely acceptable.
"It will take some time before they start wearing it, as production of fabric and preparation are required," he added, noting that the decision had not yet been officially declared but was announced today.
When asked about an incident where a journalist was reportedly barred from travelling abroad the previous day, he said, "I will look into the matter."
