Govt cancels gazette recognising eight July martyrs

The government has cancelled the official gazette that had previously recognised eight individuals as martyrs of the July Uprising.
The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs issued a notification today (3 August) regarding the removal of their names from the official list.
However, the notification did not provide any explanation for the decision.
The eight martyrs include Md Khalilur Rahman Talukder of Tangail (Gazette No. 229),
Musleh Uddin of Rampura, Dhaka (Gazette No. 224), Jinnah Mia of Narsingdi (Gazette No. 375),
Shah Zaman of Daulatkhan, Dhaka (Gazette No. 611), Md Roni of Savar (Gazette No. 766), Tauhidul Alam Jisan of Narayanganj (Gazette No. 818), Bashir Sardar of Patuakhali (Gazette No. 823) and Badhan of Shariatpur (Gazette No. 836)
According to the notification, the decision was made under the provisions of the July Uprising Martyrs' Families and July Fighters Welfare and Rehabilitation Ordinance, 2025 and the Rules of Business.
The government had earlier issued gazettes in two phases recognising 844 individuals as martyrs of the July Uprising, including detailed personal and case information for each.
As part of its support initiative, the government pledged Tk30 lakh in one-time financial assistance to each martyr's family, along with priority access to government jobs and rehabilitation programmes.
