Govt announces July uprising commemoration events from 1 July to 5 August
The 14th of July will be observed as July Women’s Day

The interim government today (24 June) officially announced that a month-long commemoration programme will be held from 1 July to 5 August, to honour the martyrs and victims of the 2024 July uprising.
In a post on the Chief Adviser GOB page on Facebook, the government stated that the programmes will begin on 1 July with prayers and memorial services at mosques, temples, pagodas, churches, and other places of worship across the country in remembrance of the martyrs.
A special "July Calendar" will also be released in both online and offline formats. On the same day, a public signature campaign will be launched demanding justice for the massacre, which will continue until 1 August.
Additionally, the National University will initiate a scholarship programme in memory of the July martyrs.
On 5 July, a nationwide poster campaign will begin to highlight the repression and abuses allegedly committed by the Awami League regime.
On 7 July, the official memorial website, Julyforever.org, will be launched.
The 14th of July will be observed as July Women's Day, marked by the release of testimonial videos from families of the victims. These videos will be circulated up to "July 36".
As part of the broader commemoration, each district will begin constructing a martyr's memorial. The Shilpakala Academy will take the lead in screening July-related documentaries in all 64 districts and universities.
At Dhaka University's TSC, special screenings will be accompanied by projection mapping, musical performances and a drone show themed on the July uprising.
The days from 19 to 21 July will be marked as Genocide and Student-People's Resistance Days.
On 5 August — symbolically referred to as "36 July" — final commemorative events will include the laying of wreaths at martyr monuments across the country, a meeting between the chief adviser and the families of the victims, and nationwide prayers for the deceased.
The day will also feature a grand rally toward Manik Mia Avenue, an air show, musical events, and the screening of the official documentary '36 Days of July' along with other short films.
A drone and murmuration show set to rap music will conclude the series of events on that day, the post added.
Numerous other events and activities are scheduled to take place throughout July, continuing until 5 August.
