The government remains vigilant in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of Bangladeshi migrant workers in the Middle East amid the ongoing conflict in the region, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed said today (4 April).
Speaking to reporters after visiting the Nagarkanda Upazilla Health Complex in Faridpur, she stated that authorities are actively working to ensure expatriates can live and work safely abroad.
She noted that global conflicts have disrupted food, fuel and other essential supplies, but the government is taking measures to keep these within affordable limits.
According to her, six Bangladeshi nationals have so far been killed in the conflict, with the bodies of three already repatriated.
Shama Obaed also said diplomatic efforts are underway to address visa-related complications faced by Bangladeshis seeking to travel to Middle Eastern countries, including initiatives to extend visa validity where necessary.
Warning against fraudulent recruitment practices, she urged the public to remain cautious of criminal networks that exploit individuals by promising overseas employment in exchange for money.
She added that the government is maintaining a strict stance against such activities.
Following the visit, the minister inspected several local institutions, accompanied by district officials and senior administrative officials.
