Khaleda reaches London for treatment, meets Tarique for first time in seven years

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who left Dhaka on Tuesday (7 January) night aboard a special air ambulance sent by the Emir of Qatar, has reached London to receive advanced treatment at The London Clinic.

The special air ambulance landed at Heathrow International Airport at 2:55pm (Bangladesh time), news agency UNB reported citing BNP Media Cell Member Sairul Kabir Khan. At the airport, she was received by her son Tarique Rahman, also the acting chairman of the BNP. This was their first reunion in seven years.

India extends Hasina's visa amid Bangladesh's extradition call

India has extended the visa of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been there since last August, people familiar with the matter said.

The extension comes against the backdrop of growing calls in Bangladesh for her extradition.

The convention centre of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), which was previously named Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Convention Centre, has been renamed as "Shaheed Abu Sayed International Convention Centre."

DSE turnover drops by 28%

The turnover of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) fell by 28% to Tk307 crore on Wednesday, reflecting reduced market participation driven by subdued investor confidence.

RU employees observe full-day work abstention demanding reinstatement of ward quota

Officials and staff at Rajshahi University are observing a full-day work abstention in demand for the reinstatement of the ward quota. 

The work abstention began at 9am this morning (8 January) and will continue until 4pm.  During this time, the officials and staff gathered in front of the university's administration building.

France foreign minister urges tougher EU action on Musk, says laws must be enforced

The European Commission must use its existing legislation in a much tougher manner, France Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said, referring to Elon Musk.

"Either the European Commission applies with the greatest firmness the laws that exist to protect our unique space or it does not and in that case it should think about giving the capacity to do so back to the member states of the European Union, to France," he said
