Germany commits €181m for Bangladesh’s development cooperation
Germany has committed €180.807 million (approximately Tk2,265 crore) in financial and technical assistance to Bangladesh, focusing on renewable energy, technical education, trade infrastructure, and efforts to combat domestic violence against women and children.
Agreements formalising this support were signed between the two countries today (28 November). Of the total, €45.8 million is allocated for Technical Cooperation, while up to €135 million will support Financial Cooperation, according to a press release.
Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky, secretary of the Economic Relations Division under the Ministry of Finance and Achim Tröster, ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bangladesh, signed the agreement on behalf of the two governments.

The cooperation under these agreements will take place in the areas of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Sustainable Urban Development, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Socially and Environmentally Sound Supply Chains, Trade and Infrastructure, Protection of Biodiversity and for a project on combating domestic violence against women and children.
Germany has been providing financial and technical assistance for the development of Bangladesh since 1972, which amounts today to a total of over €3.5 billion.
German–Bangladesh Development Cooperation has a long-standing history of supporting infrastructure, health, poverty alleviation, good governance and human rights, energy efficiency and renewable energy, and climate change adaptation.
