Fouzul calls for ordinance barring interim advisers from taking 'lucrative posts' in next elected govt
He says restriction shouldn’t apply to those who resign before election schedule announcement
Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan has called for issuing an ordinance preventing advisers and other key appointees of the interim government from holding any lucrative positions in the next elected government.
He made the call in a Facebook post today (24 October), following questions raised by several political parties, including BNP, Jamaat, and NCP, about the neutrality of some advisers during recent meetings between party delegations and the chief adviser.
Sharing three infographics from a Facebook page named "Bongograph", Fouzul wrote, "Questions have been raised about the neutrality of advisers during meetings with the chief adviser. My name was also mentioned in one party's list.
"In my defence, I can only say that I am not used to thinking or making decisions in a biased way. I have always made decisions without any personal or political attachment. Still, since questions have been raised, they must be resolved," he wrote.
The adviser added, "To resolve this issue, an ordinance could be issued stating that the chief adviser, advisers, special assistants, and all contractual appointees of the interim government can't hold any profitable positions in the next elected government.
"However, this restriction should not apply to those who resign before the announcement of the election schedule."
On 21 October, a BNP delegation met the chief adviser and urged the government to move into a "caretaker mode" ahead of the national election. They also talked about the neutrality of the interim government.
The next day, delegations from the Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP) held separate meetings with the chief adviser, cautioning him about the actions of some advisers.
