Former food minister Qamrul, justice Manik shown arrested in murder case

Former food minister Qamrul Islam and former justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik have been shown arrested in the case filed over the murder of Rakib Hasan, a seventh-grade student of ITZ School and College in Mohammadpur during the July Uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam passed the order today (14 July) after Mohammadpur Police Station Inspector Md Hafizur Rahman, the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court with a petition to show them arrested.
The court granted the petition, confirmed defence lawyer Morshed Hossain Shahin.
According to the case statement, Rakib was shot in front of St Joseph School during the protests led by the Students Against Discrimination on 19 July last year.
Later, he was taken to the National Institute of Neuro Sciences & Hospital, where he died around 8:30pm.
On 22 September last year, Rakib's uncle, Md Nurul Amin, filed the murder case against 87 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
In the case, Qamrul was named as the 10th accused and Manik as the 11th accused.
Earlier on 18 November last year, police arrested Qamrul Islam from Uttara Sector-12 in the capital. The following day, he was taken on remand in connection with another murder case filed with the New Market Police Station.
After several remand periods, he has been kept in jail.
On 24 August last year, former justice Manik was arrested from the Dona border area in Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet while trying to flee to India.
Later, he was taken on remand in multiple murder cases.
