Forest Department rescues python in Rangamati, returns it to Kaptai National Park
An 8-foot-long python was rescued from the Assam Bosti coconut grove area in Rangamati town on Tuesday and later released into Kaptai National Park.
According to the South Chattogram Hill Forest Division, the Forest Department received a report around 7:30 am that a python had been trapped in a net in the coconut grove. The report came through members of the Biodiversity Conservation Society of CHT. A special patrol team, led by Deputy Ranger Md Sultanul Azim, recovered the snake at around 9:00 am.
The rescued python, dark brownish red in colour, measured 8 feet in length and weighed nearly 8 kilograms. It was subsequently released into a secure area of Kaptai National Park in the afternoon.
Md Abdul Hamid, officer of the South Chattogram Hill Forest Division, said the Forest Department remains active in conserving reptiles, wildlife and biodiversity, and ensured that the rescued python was safely released.
Kaptai Range Officer Omar Faruk Swadhin confirmed that the snake was placed in a secure area within the park.
The Forest Department continues to monitor and safeguard the region's wildlife to ensure the protection of its diverse species.
