Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport authorities seized foreign currencies worth approximately Tk2.93 crore from a Dubai-bound passenger this morning (26 November).

The passenger, identified as Dulal Jamaddar, was scheduled to board US-Bangla Airlines flight BS-343, a connecting flight from Dhaka to Dubai via Chattogram.

According to Shah Amanat International Airport's Public Relations Officer Ibrahim Khalil, the passenger's suspicious behaviour alerted the flight crew, prompting them to offload him.

"US-Bangla authorities handed him over to the airport security unit along with his hand luggage," said Khalil.

Duty Security Officer Badsha Faisal and his team conducted an initial inquiry during which the passenger admitted to carrying foreign currencies.

Subsequently, the airport security unit (AVSEC), Bangladesh Air Force task force, Customs, and intelligence agencies were informed.

"In the presence of all relevant authorities, the passenger was handed over to the airport Customs. A search of his luggage revealed 921,500 Saudi Riyals, equivalent to approximately Tk2.93 crore," Khalil said.

The detained passenger is currently in Customs custody, and legal proceedings against him are underway, confirmed airport authorities.
