In order to ensure natural breeding and reproduction of carp fish, the local administration has imposed a three-month ban on fishing, marketing, and transportation of fish from Kaptail Lake from Saturday midnight (1 May).

Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mizanur Rahman issued a notification in this connection on Friday.

He said the ban on fishing would continue until 31 July, with a view to ensuring natural breeding of carp fish and maintaining a supportive natural environment at the lake for its reproduction.

River police will be deployed to check illegal fishing, marketing, and its transportation through mobile court at the lake. The deputy commissioner also warned against illegal fishing during this period, adding that necessary legal measures would be taken if anyone violated the order.

He said around 20,000 fishermen would get food assistance during the ban through a special VGF card. Fishermen get food assistance every year during the ban so that they can avoid illegal fishing while the ban is in effect.
