Kaptai Dam sluice gates closed after 11 days of water release
On 8 September, all 16 sluice gates of the dam were initially opened by six inches following a rise in the lake’s water level.

The authorities have closed all 16 sluice gates of the Kaptai Dam in Rangamati after 11 consecutive days of water release, as the water level in Kaptai Lake has receded below the danger mark.
According to Md Mahmud Hasan, manager of the Karnafuli Hydropower Station, the gates were shut at around 8am today (19 September). At that time, the water level of the lake stood at 108.22 feet MSL (Mean Sea Level).
On 8 September, all 16 sluice gates of the dam were initially opened by six inches following a rise in the lake's water level.
As the level continued to increase, the gates were gradually raised up to three and a half feet to control the situation.
