Fisheries, livestock farms get 20% power rebate; Tk100cr subsidy approved
The move aims to reduce production costs for farmers and hatchery owners
The government has taken a policy decision to include marginal fish farms, hatcheries, and livestock and poultry farms in the list of beneficiaries eligible for a 20% rebate on electricity bills.
The move aims to reduce production costs for farmers and hatchery owners, reads a press release issued today (26 January) signed by Md Mamun Hassan, senior information and public relations officer of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.
At present, a 20% electricity rebate is provided to 16 sectors under the government's power rebate policy to support agricultural production, encourage agro-product exports and promote agro-based industries.
Under the latest decision, the Finance Division has approved a Tk100 crore subsidy for four sectors under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.
The sectors include animal and poultry feed manufacturing, fish feed production, the poultry industry, and dairy processing industries. Dairy processing covers activities such as milk pasteurisation, powdered milk, ice cream, condensed milk, sweets, cheese, ghee, butter, chocolate and yoghurt.
The government expects the initiative to significantly reduce production costs, increase industrial investment and help the country move towards greater self-sufficiency in the production of safe and quality animal protein.
