Captain Nurul Haque (retd), the first chief of naval staff of the Bangladesh Navy, has died in the capital's Combined Military Hospital (CMH) due to old age complications.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the matter to the media on Tuesday, reports Jago News.
Nurul Haque had been suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes for a long time. During the time of his death, he was 86 years old.

He will be buried at the Banani Military Cemetery in the capital following proper hygiene amid Covid-19 outbreak after namaz-e-janaza at the Naval Headquarters Mosque after Zuhr prayers on Tuesday.
Born on 24 February 1922 in Sylhet's Habiganj, Nurul Haque took part in the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971 and led the newly elected navy.
After the independence, he was the Chief of Naval Staff from 7 April 1972 to 6 November 1973.
He was also the former State Minister for Shipping. During his long career, Captain Nurul Haque played an important role in various ships and bases.
