Fire at Secretariat brought under control within minutes
As a precaution, fire service personnel remained on site and used hydrant lines to cool the surrounding area. Two units from Siddiq Bazar Fire Station and one unit from inside the Secretariat came to control the fire.
A fire broke out in the exhaust fan of a washroom on the ninth floor of the newly constructed number one building of the Secretariat today (30 November), which was brought under control within minutes.
Md Saleh Uddin, deputy director of FSCD, Dhaka division, told reporters that they received the fire alert at 2pm.
"A fire service vehicle inside the Secretariat reached the building by 2:02 pm," he said.
"The team went up to the ninth floor and quickly brought the fire under control," Saleh Uddin added. He said the fire started from the exhaust fan and was brought under control in two to three minutes.

Secretariat officials said that when news of the fire spread, officials and staff evacuated using the stairs. The fire alarm went off immediately after the fire started.
They also noted that during the earthquake on 21 November, a pillar in the middle of the building had cracked. No special inspection or follow-up action had been taken regarding it.
