Fire guts 44 shops in Khulna
Fire Service could not immediately report the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage

A fire broke out at the makeshift market near the Picture Palace intersection of Khulna and gutted 44 shops within about an hour.
The fire started around 5:30am this morning (19 March).
According to the Khulna Control Room of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, nine units started working to control the fire upon receiving news, and they brought the blaze under control at around 6:10am.
However, the fire service could not immediately report the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.
"We went to the scene after receiving news of the fire in the morning. The fire destroyed 44 shops there," said Sanowar Hossain Masum, officer-in-charge of Khulna Sadar Police Station.
Traders said after the Picture Palace Hall was demolished, they had been conducting business in makeshift shops set up on that land for a year under the name 'Picture Palace Super Market.'
The unplanned market had all kinds of risks. The traders quickly evacuated the place when the fire broke out in the early morning. The fire rapidly spread to every shop.
