Fire at Gazipur grocery market brought under control after over an hour
By the time the blaze was contained, goods in several shops had been completely gutted
A fire broke out at a grocery market in Chandana Chowrasta area of Gazipur city this morning (4 September). It was brought under control after more than an hour of efforts by 5 units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Locals said the fire started around 6am at Abdus Subhan's vegetable and grocery market, located behind Shapla Mansion in the Basan police station area. It initially broke out in one shop before quickly spreading to adjacent stores. By the time the blaze was contained, goods in several shops had been completely gutted.
Md Abdullah Mamun, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service, said, "Three units from Bhogra Modern Fire Station first rushed to the spot. As the fire intensified, two more units from Joydebpur joined, making it a total of five units. After about one hour and 20 minutes of effort, the fire was brought under control at 7:20am."
He added that the cause of the fire and the extent of damage could not be determined immediately.
"The reason behind the fire and the estimated losses will be known after investigation," he said.
