The fire that broke out at a shopping mall on Bailey Road in the capital has been brought under control.

The fire was extinguished at 8:38pm, said the official.

Talha bin Zasim, media officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, told the media that 18 people were rescued from the rooftop of the building.
The fire originated on the basement of Capital Siraj Shopping Mall around 6:45pm. The first unit from the fire service reached the spot at 6:58pm. Later, eight more units joined the effort to douse the flame.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

The Fire Service headquarters initially reported that the blaze originated in a restaurant.
Earlier on 29 February 2024, a massive fire broke out in a restaurant on Dhaka's Bailey Road, leaving at least 46 people dead and many others injured.
A case was filed against Amin Mohammad Group, owner of the building, and three others, bringing allegations of causing deaths by negligence and attempted murder.

The statement mentioned that the building was constructed as a residential building. Later, the accused, along with other businesses on different floors, managed to obtain commercial certificates from relevant authorities for conducting business within the structure.
Following the tragic Bailey Road restaurant fire, authorities in Dhaka launched relentless crackdown on restaurants lacking proper fire safety measures.
This has spooked many restaurant owners, leading to closures across the city.
