The Fire Service and Civil Defence, with support from BGB, the army and locals, has managed to bring the fire under control at a building in the capital's Hazaribagh nearly two and a half hours after it broke out.

The fire started at around 2:14pm today (17 January) at a godown of leather goods housed on the fourth floor of the seven-storey building, located in the Hazaribagh tannery kitchen market area, said Fire Service and Civil Defence spokesperson Shajahan Sikder.

The fire later spread to the fifth and sixth floors of the building. Firefighters had to bring in a skylift while Dhaka Wasa sent vehicles with additional water to douse the flames.
