The Fire Service and Civil Defence, with support from BGB, the army and locals, has managed to bring the fire under control at a building in the capital's Hazaribagh nearly two and a half hours after it broke out.
The fire started at around 2:14pm today (17 January) at a godown of leather goods housed on the fourth floor of the seven-storey building, located in the Hazaribagh tannery kitchen market area, said Fire Service and Civil Defence spokesperson Shajahan Sikder.

The fire later spread to the fifth and sixth floors of the building. Firefighters had to bring in a skylift while Dhaka Wasa sent vehicles with additional water to douse the flames.
Backed by BGB and the army, 11 firefighting units brought the fire under control at around 4:45pm, said Duty Officer Shafiqul Islam at the Fire Service headquarters.

The search and rescue operation is still ongoing as the first responders are working to douse the flames completely.
The authorities are yet to determine how the fire started, he said. No casualties have been reported so far.
