A total of 18 people were injured in a fire that broke out early today (7 April) in a five-storey building on Nazim Uddin Road in the Bangshal area of the capital.

The fire originated around 4:10am on the first floor, which was a furniture shop.

After nearly 40 minutes of effort, firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by 4:50am, according to a message from the public relations department of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Five units from the Siddique Bazar Fire Station and two units from the Lalbagh Station responded to the scene.

Among the injured, six individuals were in critical condition and were rushed to the hospital, the message added.
