Teachers and students of the Fine Arts Faculty of Dhaka University formed a human chain protesting the arson attack on the house of artist and distinguished alumni of the Faculty of Fine Arts Manabendra Ghosh, who participated in the celebration of Pahela Baishakh.

The human chain was organised in front of Aparajeyo Bangla at Dhaka University around 12pm on Thursday.

Former students, teachers, the proctor, teachers of various departments of DU, and provosts participated in the event.

Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts Professor Azharul Islam Sheikh, said, "With everyone's cooperation, we successfully celebrated Bengali New Year 1432. But from the moment we started working, a group of conspirators became engaged in plots to sabotage our event. That began on the morning of 12 April by setting fire to motifs being constructed at the Faculty of Fine Arts. We call upon the law enforcement agencies to arrest the culprits quickly."

"Yesterday, at Manabendra Ghosh's house, in his studio, a fire was set that burned down all his lifetime achievements and artworks. We express our sorrow for this. Bring those under the law who were involved in the arson at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Manabendra Ghosh's house," the dean said.
