Fascist govt wanted to erase Abrar Fahad’s memory: Adviser Asif
Abrar is more than just a name—he represents a journey of resistance, he says

The previous fascist government attempted to erase the memory of Abrar Fahad, Local Government and Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan said today (6 March).
"They suppressed news coverage and prevented events from being held in his [Abrar's] honour. Whenever efforts were made to organise programmes, they were met with attacks, imprisonment, and torture," he said while addressing the inauguration ceremony of Shaheed Abrar Fahad Stadium in Kushtia.
He emphasised that the names of those who have sacrificed themselves cannot be erased, and this truth has been reaffirmed.
"Following the mass uprising of 2024, every person in Bangladesh now remembers Abrar Fahad, who continues to serve as an inspiration in the fight against oppression," he added.
Mentioning that Abrar Fahad has become a crucial figure in the ongoing struggle against aggression, Asif said, "Abrar is more than just a name—he represents a journey of resistance."
"Inspired by Abrar Fahad's sacrifice, the youth of this country took to the streets in overwhelming numbers during the July uprising, determined to free the nation from aggression. Their relentless movement ultimately forced Sheikh Hasina to flee the country," Asif said.
He further warned that conspiracies are still at play.
"Defeated forces are attempting to divide the people by inciting conflicts over minor issues. Extremist groups are being given opportunities to destabilise the country," he added.
He made it clear that the interim government will take firm action against any such attempts.
Earlier at noon, Abrar Fahad's father Md Barkat Ullah officially inaugurated the stadium in the presence of Asif Mahmud. Abrar's mother Rokeya Khatun was also present at the event.
Initially named Sheikh Kamal Stadium in 2020, the venue was officially renamed Shaheed Abrar Fahad Stadium in November 2024 to honour his legacy.
