Fascism has destroyed the concept of freedom: Asif Mahmud

The country was born in 1971 through a bloody struggle for independence, but the past 16 years have seen fascism erode the very concept of freedom, Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan said today (26 March).
"We believe that until every citizen of this country truly feels independent when they have freedom of speech and expression. Just having an independent territory is of no real benefit," he said while speaking to journalists today (26 March) after paying tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Memorial in Savar on the occasion of Independence Day.
Asif, adviser for Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, further said, "We believe that '24 [July uprising] has preserved that independence, and through yet another bloody mass uprising, we have safeguarded the hard-earned freedom of '71."
"One of the critical steps in this struggle was '24. This independence will continue in Bangladesh in the days ahead, and never again will the people of this free land feel subjugated," he added.
