Faridpur land official suspended as money-counting video sparks bribery allegations
Following the incident, Deputy Commissioner Md Mazharul Islam ordered his suspension on the same day, Deputy Collector Insana Tanzin Iko confirmed.
A video showing a land official counting money has gone viral on social media, prompting authorities in Faridpur to suspend him over allegations of taking a bribe.
The video surfaced yesterday (26 July), showing Imran Sheikh, a sub-assistant land officer at the Satair Union Land Office in Boalmari upazila, sitting at his desk and counting money allegedly received from a person seeking services.
The 2-minute-22-second video also captures Imran making comments about the assistant commissioner (land). He is heard saying, "He is also from the 40th BCS, and I am also from the 40th BCS. He was lucky to become a cadre officer, while I became a non-cadre officer."

Imran denied the bribery allegation, saying the money shown in the video was a loan repayment, not a bribe.
"Many people borrow money from me and return it later. This video was recorded when someone was returning borrowed money," he added.
Following the incident, Deputy Commissioner Md Mazharul Islam ordered his suspension on the same day, Deputy Collector Insana Tanzin Iko confirmed.
The order cited alleged misconduct and corruption under Sections 3(b and d) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules.
The suspension came under Section 12(1) of the same rules.
