Fakhrul for strengthening organisation to change society
Those who want to bring about a revolution today, change society and improve the condition of the common people, must strengthen their organisation
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today (19 September) said those who want to bring about a revolution, change society and improve the condition of the common people must be organisationally strong.
"Those who want to bring about a revolution today, change society and improve the condition of the common people, must strengthen their organisation. They must make it more robust," he said.
Fakhrul made the remarks at a commemoration held in honor of the late left politician and author Badruddin Umar at the Bangla Academy's Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium in the city.
Badruddin Umar, who was president of the Jatiya Mukti Council, died at a hospital in the capital on 7 September at the age of 93.
The BNP Secretary General said, "One point that has been strongly emphasised in this discussion is that of organisation. I believe from my personal experience that a revolution only succeeds when there is an organisation in place. The frustration we see today is primarily due to a lack of organisation. A revolution cannot happen without a revolutionary organisation."
Mentioning the lifestyle of Badruddin Umar, Fakhrul said, "I didn't have many opportunities to interact with Comrade Badruddin Umar. I once visited the house of the adviser of the interim government of Education Adviser Prof CR Abrar where I spoke with him for a long time. Badruddin Umar never compromised on his ideals and struggles until his last day. We, who are in politics today, hold him in great respect because he never compromised. I'm not sure how much the new generation has been able to learn from him."
The commemoration began with a minute of silence in tribute to Badruddin Umar. The Communist International song was performed and a documentary was also shown during the discussion.
The Badruddin Umar Shoksabha Jatiya Committee arranged the commemoration.
Faiezul Hakim, convener of the committee and also secretary of the Jatiya Mukti Council, presided over the event.
Eminent politicians, academics and professionals also participated in the event.
