'Culture of impunity emboldened perpetrators': Fakhrul condemns rising violence, harassment against women
It is our moral duty to protect the dignity and freedom of women, which is a constitutional right. The people of the country are deeply worried about the ongoing lawlessness, says the senior BNP leader

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has strongly condemned and expressed deep concern over the increasing incidents of violence and harassment against women in the country.
In a statement issued today (7 March), he said that female students, workers, and professionals are facing harassment, including eve-teasing, sexual assault, and violence in educational institutions and in public places. "Incidents of rape and murder have also been on the rise."
Since the fascist Awami League government came to power, such crimes have increased significantly due to a lack of strict measures and justice, he alleged. "This culture of impunity has emboldened perpetrators, leading to further violence against women."
Fakhrul said, "We are observing with great concern that harassment against women in streets and educational institutions is escalating, creating an alarming situation. These incidents are contributing to chaos and instability."
"It is our moral duty to protect the dignity and freedom of women, which is a constitutional right. The people of the country are deeply worried about the ongoing lawlessness, including violence against women," he added.
The senior BNP leader further said women are playing a leading role alongside men in the country's development and progress. "Their contributions to education and other sectors are highly commendable. Even abroad, Bangladeshi women are bringing honour through their achievements."
Calling upon everyone to act responsibly and remain vigilant, he urged the interim government to take strict action against violence against women and other anarchic situations to ensure justice and restore peace in the country.
