Export-oriented container scanner operations resume at Ctg port

The Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has resumed operations of its export-oriented container scanner, which was installed with its own funding.
The resumption was officially inaugurated today (4 May) by Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman, chairman of CPA.
Present at the event were Chattogram Customs Commissioner Zakir Hossain, Port Member (Harbor and Marine) Captain Ahamed Amin Abdullah, Director of Security Lt Col Md Jahirul Islam, Secretary of CPA Mohd Omar Faruk, along with other senior officials from the port and customs departments.
The high-performance fixed scanner, supplied by Five R Associates Limited, was originally installed in February 2024 and had been operated under the supervision of the Chattogram Custom House. Although the company was contracted for maintenance, scanner operations were temporarily halted following the expiration of that contract.
According to port officials, maintaining uninterrupted scanner operations is critical to ensuring smooth export procedures.
In response to the disruption, the Chattogram Port Authority took immediate action by temporarily re-engaging the previous contractor for maintenance work to restore services.
This step, taken in line with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, is expected to play a vital role in enhancing the security of international trade through Chattogram Port.
