Too many accused in July Uprising cases slowing down investigations: Adviser
The adviser said attempts are being made to provoke unrest through the misuse of artificial intelligence on social media, where deceased individuals are being falsely shown as alive.
Investigations into the murder cases filed over the July Uprising are being delayed due to the excessive inclusion of accused individuals, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said.
"In some of the post-5 August murder cases, there were supposed to be 20 accused, but the number was raised to 200. That makes the investigation more time-consuming," he said while talking to reporters after visiting the Narayanganj Police Lines today (26 July).
"Some interest groups have falsely implicated innocent individuals for their own benefit. We have instructed that no innocent person should be harassed," he added.
The adviser said attempts are being made to provoke unrest through the misuse of artificial intelligence on social media, where deceased individuals are being falsely shown as alive.
"If what really happens is shown in the media, the situation will improve. There will always be some instigators trying to create problems. But people should not create division with the police. Let us do our job of maintaining law and order," he said.
The home adviser said efforts are underway to recover illegal weapons used by criminals during the unrest.
"More weapons will be seized before the election. Holding a fair election is not only the duty of the police but also the responsibility of candidates, the Election Commission, and the administration. If everyone cooperates, we will be able to organise a proper election," he added.
