Actor Riaz fails to secure anticipatory bail in 2 cases linked to July Uprising
The actor appeared in person before the High Court today seeking anticipatory bail in the two cases.
The High Court today (3 September) returned two anticipatory bail pleas filed by actor Riaz Uddin Ahmed Siddique in separate attempted murder cases filed with Jatrabari and Shahbagh police stations in connection with the 2024 July Uprising.
The actor appeared in person before the High Court and sought anticipatory bail in the two cases, said Deputy Attorney General Md Monzurul Alam Sujon.
After hearing the petitions, a bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order.

Senior lawyer Motahar Hossain Saju appeared for Riaz, while Deputy Attorney General Md Monzurul Alam Sujon appeared for the state.
Speaking to reporters, the deputy attorney general said, "The court did not grant bail. It returned the two petitions and removed them from the cause list."
Riaz's lawyer Sujon said there is an opportunity to seek bail in the two cases before another High Court bench.
One of the cases was filed on 2 May 2025, alleging that the defendants attempted to kill Saifuddin Mohammad Emdad, a student of the capital's Government Madrasah-E-Alia.
A total of 201 people have been accused in the case. Besides Riaz, 14 actors are among the accused, including former Dhaka-10 lawmaker Ferdous Ahmed, Chanchal Chowdhury, Mamunur Rashid, Meher Afroz Shaon, Aruna Biswas, Jyotika Jyoti, Shamima Tusti, Shomi Kaiser, Saju Khadem, Ashna Habib Bhabna, Sohana Saba, Rokeya Prachy and Zayed Khan.
Riaz is also facing another case related to the 2024 July Uprising.
