A group of angry locals partially demolished the residence of Awami League's Presidium Member and ex-mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) AHM Khairuzzaman Liton in the Rajshahi Upashahar area last night (6 February).

Using a bulldozer, some agitating locals vandalised the main gate, walls and a side of the three-storey building around 11pm, said locals at the site during the incident.

However, the locals refrained from demolishing the entire building despite saying that the house built through corruption would be completely turned into ashes.

Khairuzzaman went into hiding with his family on 5 August 2024 after Sheikh Hasina's ouster.

The ex-Rajshahi mayor and his family are believed to be in India now. No one was present at the residence when the demolition started.

Khairuzzaman's house was already vandalised and looted once after the AL government's fall. Even the doors and the windows were removed, leaving almost nothing behind.

Since then, the house has been standing like a ghost house.

Meanwhile, a restaurant named Dallas and Awami League's Office at Upashahar area were vandalised and burnt on the same night.

Earlier, some angry locals vandalised and set fire to ex-MP and state minister for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam's house in Rajshahi's Bagha upazila around 12pm on Thursday.
