Ex-AL minister Nuruzzaman shown arrested in ACC case

Former social welfare minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed has been shown arrested in a case alleging acquisition of wealth beyond known sources, involving the transfer, movement and conversion of assets to conceal their illicit origins.
The order was issued today (18 February) by the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Foyez following an ACC petition, court bench assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed.
ACC Investigating Officer and Deputy Assistant Director Zakir Hossain filed the petition seeking to have him arrested in the case.
The petition states that former minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed and his wife Mosammat Hossne Ara Begum acquired assets beyond their known income and in collusion, misused their power to carry out suspicious transactions through their bank accounts
The petition also stated that it was essential to show Nuruzzaman, who is currently in jail, arrested in this case.
Notably, Nuruzzaman was arrested on 30 January 2025 by the Rangpur Metropolitan Police from the residence of his younger brother Waheduzzaman on Post Office Lane, Central Road, Rangpur city and has remained in custody since.
A case has been filed against him, his son, and 128 others over the death of Mahmudul Hasan Munna during the anti-discrimination movement in Rangpur, while eight additional cases have been filed against him in Lalmonirhat district since 5 August.
