Jatiya Party acting Chairman GM Quader on Friday said the condition of his brother HM Ershad, now on life support at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) here, has improved a bit further, but he is still not out of danger.

“Palli Bandhu’s health condition has improved slightly. Doctors have helped ease his respiratory problem and some other complications artificially,” he said.

Quader came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after a prayer session at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Jum'a prayers seeking the speedy recovery of Ershad.

He said their party chairman looks much better than Thursday as he is not suffering from the respiratory problem anymore. “But he’s not still out of danger. Doctors think if the trend of improvement in his condition continues Ershad will recover soon.”

Quader said 36 bags of blood have been given to his brother since he was admitted to the CMH. “Doctors are giving him blood and other treatment to increase the blood platelet count. We’re satisfied over the treatment of the CMH. ”

He said unnecessary water from Ershad’s body was removed on Thursday night through dialysis. “He may undergo dialysis again this afternoon.”

The Jatiya Party acting chairman also said CMH doctors emailed his brother’s all reports to Singapore, but they did not suggest sending him there by air ambulance.

He urged all to pray for the quick recovery of Ershad.

The 89-year-old former military strongman was put on life support at 4:10pm on Thursday.

Ershad, also the leader of the opposition in parliament, was admitted to the CMH on June 26 as his condition deteriorated.

He has been suffering from various old age complications, including low haemoglobin and liver problem, high bilirubin and serious keen pain.
