Dense fog reduced visibility to around 200 metres, while humidity stood at 97%, intensifying the cold, according to the district meteorological office.
Gopalganj recorded the lowest temperature of the season in the country today (31 December), with the mercury dropping to 7.5 degrees Celsius.
Dense fog reduced visibility to around 200 metres, while humidity stood at 97%, intensifying the cold, according to the district meteorological office.
Abu Sufian, acting officer-in-charge of the Gopalganj meteorological office, said temperatures may rise slightly, the severity of the cold is likely to remain almost unchanged for the next two days.
The harsh cold, accompanied by chilly winds and drizzle-like fine moisture particles, has made daily life increasingly difficult.
Due to the cold and fog, the presence of people on roads has dropped sharply, with many working people avoiding going out unless absolutely necessary. Meanwhile, although the Boro season has begun, farmers are struggling to work in the fields due to the intense cold.
According to the district's agricultural extension department, if the current conditions persist for several more days, Boro paddy transplantation could be disrupted and seedlings may face the risk of damage.
