CU hosts 'Green Education and Sustainability Summit 2026'
Organised by environmental organisation - Our Green Campus, the summit took place at the Faculty of Business Administration auditorium.
A daylong "Green Education and Sustainability Summit 2026" was held at the University of Chittagong (CU) today (19 July) under the theme "Be Part of the Change Together, For a Greener Tomorrow", with The Business Standard serving as the media partner.

CU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Mohammad Al-Amin and Business Administration Faculty Dean Prof Mohammad Saleh Jahur attended as special guests. Prof Md Kamal Uddin, chief adviser to Our Green Campus, delivered the keynote presentation titled "Understanding Green Campus".

In his keynote address, Kamal Uddin stressed that environmental protection requires not only policies, science and technology but also behavioural change. He said the organisation's "Green Philosophy" seeks to build a positive relationship between people and the environment, arguing that environmental initiatives cannot succeed without pro-environmental behaviour.
Prof Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain later conducted a session on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the activities of Our Green Campus, while Md Arifur Rahman presented on the concept of a zero-waste campus.
A panel discussion titled "Building a Sustainable Green Campus" featured TBS Chattogram Bureau Chief Shamsuddin Illius, Prof Khadija Mitu, Prof Mohammad Shahab Uddin, Associate Prof AGM Niaz Uddin, Prof Md Anwar Hossain and Md Arifur Rahman. The session was moderated by Prof Kamal Uddin.
Speaking as chief guest, Prof Mohammad Al-Amin said education should bring positive changes in behaviour and values, not merely impart knowledge. He said environmental education plays a vital role in promoting responsible lifestyles and environmental conservation.
He warned that development at the expense of the environment is unacceptable and called for coexistence with nature rather than conflict. He also noted that CU's Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences had received the Prime Minister's Gold Medal in recognition of its contribution to environmental education.
Among others, CU Proctor Professor Hossain Shaid Shohrowardhy, Director of the Student Counselling and Guidance Office Prof Md Anwar Hossain, Chaksu General Secretary Saeed Bin Habib and Assistant General Secretary Ayubur Rahman Toufiq spoke at the programme.
Our Green Campus President Mujahidul Islam and General Secretary Taspia delivered welcome remarks. Mujahidul said climate change, pollution and natural resource depletion have made environmental protection a matter of survival. He said green education and sustainability are essential for building a balanced and liveable future.
The event was attended by Social Science Faculty Dean Prof Dr Md Enayet Ullah Patwary, Surya Sen Hall Provost Prof Syed Muhammad Shamsul Huda, Atish Dipankar Hall Provost AGM Niaz Uddin, teachers, IPSA representatives, invited guests, former and current leaders of Our Green Campus and students.
