The authorities of RPCL-Norinco International Power Limited (RNPL) power plant in Patuakhali have decided to reject two companies from the evaluation process due to their late submission of coal supply tenders past the deadline.

United Power and Sena Kalyan Sangstha, which submitted their tenders after the deadline, have been disqualified, and their tenders will be returned unopened, following the decision made in Tuesday's (25 March) board meeting, Engineer Md Selim Bhuiyan, managing director of RNPL, told The Business Standard.

"Four other companies that submitted their tenders on time will proceed to the evaluation stage. The technical bids will be opened and assessed in early April, and companies that pass the technical evaluation will then have their financial bids reviewed," he added.

Earlier, on Monday, TBS published a report titled "Patuakhali RNPL power plant faces allegations over late tender acceptance." In response, Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, assured that appropriate actions would be taken regarding the matter.

The tender process has faced several delays. After two calls for tenders and multiple extensions, a re-tender was issued on 3 February this year.

Initially, the deadline for tender submissions was set for 6 March, but it was extended by two weeks due to a change in the coal price index. The final submission deadline was 20 March at 12pm.

PT Sumber Global Energy Tbk, Liannex Corporation (5) Pte Ltd, Yongtai Energy Pte Ltd, and AVRA International DMCC submitted their tenders within the deadline.

However, United Power and Sena Kalyan Sangstha submitted their tenders after the deadline, with United Power's tender missing the required company seal.
