Govt advises use of public transport to save fuel
Govt also urged people to conserve natural gas and avoid unnecessary use of gas-powered appliances
The government has urged people across the country to avoid unnecessary travel and use public transport instead of private vehicles to save fuel.
Citizens have also been asked to adopt ride-sharing or car-pooling where possible.
The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources issued the advisory today (5 March) as international fuel prices have risen following the United States and Israel war launched on Iran and the halt of oil imports through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the statement, the ongoing geopolitical situation in the Middle East could disrupt the international fuel supply system, prompting the government to take precautionary measures in advance.
As part of these measures, the government has urged all government institutions, autonomous bodies, private organisations, commercial establishments and conscious citizens to immediately adopt fuel-saving practices.
The statement also called for conserving natural gas. It said appropriate methods should be followed to ensure maximum savings in gas use for cooking and other purposes, and unnecessary use of gas-powered appliances should be avoided.
It further advised regular inspection of gas pipelines and burners to prevent wastage caused by gas leakage, and urged everyone to refrain from illegal use of gas.
The ministry also urged institutions across the country to take necessary steps to ensure fuel conservation during and after office hours at all government offices and establishments.
Commercial institutions have also been requested to be economical in fuel use and avoid excessive consumption.
