One out of two Ashuganj power plant units resumes production after nearly 6hrs
The other unit may take at least three days to resume operations as the issue is being discussed with experts in Germany.
Electricity generation from one of the two units that shut down at the Ashuganj Power Station due to a fault in the national grid line, has resumed after nearly six hours.
Power generation from the 450MW north unit restarted around 8:15pm today (13 March), officials of the power plant confirmed.
According to the power station sources, a sudden fault in the national grid line occurred around 2:30pm, forcing the shutdown of the 450MW north unit and the 400MW east unit connected to the grid.
Following the disruption, the plant's technical team began working to restore the units. After the fault was resolved, the north unit returned to production after remaining shut for nearly six hours.
Mohammad Abdul Majid, executive director (operation and maintenance) of the power station, told The Business Standard that the North unit has already been restarted.
However, he said the east unit may take at least three days to resume operations as the issue is being discussed with experts in Germany.
He added that gas allocated for the east unit is currently being used to generate about 50MW of electricity from another unit, which is being supplied to the national grid.
Earlier in the afternoon, electricity generation from the two units had been suspended due to the grid fault, leaving only three of the plant's five units in operation.
