VC's resignation under pressure from 'a section of students' won't be accepted: Kuet Teachers' Association

The resignation of the vice-chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (Kuet) based on the demands of a section of students will not be accepted, the Kuet Teachers' Association said at a press conference today (23 April) afternoon.
"Since the government has already intervened, if they find any faults or irregularities, they will take necessary action. Otherwise, we strongly oppose forcing a vice-chancellor to resign under pressure from any group," said Dr Md Faruk Hossain, general secretary of the association.
He added that teachers will refrain from participating in academic activities until justice is served for the assaults on faculty members.
At the press conference held at Kuet Auditorium, association president Professor Dr Md Shahidul Islam said, "The education adviser visited our campus today. However, he only spoke with the students and did not meet with us, which has deeply disappointed us."
Kuet Students are on an indefinite hunger strike demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Mashud. On Wednesday at 10am, Education Adviser CR Abrar visited the Kuet campus. During his visit, he repeatedly urged the students to call off their hunger strike.
However, the students announced that they would continue the hunger strike until the vice-chancellor resigns. After meeting with the students, the adviser left the campus.
The students began their hunger strike at 3pm on 21 April. Of the 32 students who started the strike, six have fallen ill and been admitted to the medical centre, while two others have returned home.
