Students rush to submit nominations on final day of Rucsu polls

Students today (7 September) flocked to submit their nomination papers on the last day of filing for Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (Rucsu).
Forms are being accepted from 9am to 5pm. By 2pm, 38 nomination forms had been submitted, most by independent candidates.
In the afternoon, candidates backed by Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir and left-leaning student organisations are expected to file their papers.
So far, 479 students have collected nomination forms. Of these, 395 are for Rucsu and 84 for the senate. Among them, 214 were collected on a panel basis.
On the first day of submissions last Thursday, only 29 forms were filed.
For the hall council elections, 764 students from 17 halls have collected forms. Many are also submitting those on the final day.
Scrutiny of nominations will take place on 8-9 September.
The preliminary candidate list will be published on 10 September.
Withdrawals will be allowed on 13 September, and the final voter list will be published on 14 September.
The Rucsu election is set for 25 September.
Chief Returning Officer Setaur Rahman said students who test positive in a dope test or are accused in police cases will not be allowed to contest.
"Special attention is being given to this issue during scrutiny," he added.
At around 12:30pm, Rajshahi University Chhatra Dal announced its full panel for the Rucsu election at the university's Central Shaheed Minar.
