Probe committee formed over attempted rape, assault of JU student

A committee has been formed to investigate the attempted rape and assault of a female student at Jahangirnagar University by an outsider.
The seven-member committee has been formed with Professor Md Sohel Rana of the Department of Pharmacy as its chief.
The decision was made on Saturday (16 May) following an emergency administrative meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan.
The matter was confirmed through a press release issued by the university administration.
According to the release, the student was subjected to an attempted rape and a life-threatening attack by an outsider on the night of Tuesday (12 May).
The committee has been tasked with determining overall responsibility for the incident and examining any negligence related to security by the relevant departments or individuals, before submitting a report along with recommendations.
Other members of the investigation committee are Professor DNahid Akhtar of the Department of Botany, Professor Md Zakir Hossain of the Department of Philosophy, Professor Dr Nasrin Sultana of the Department of Government and Politics, Professor Dr Md Kamruzzaman of the Department of Zoology, and Professor Md Zahir Raihan of the Department of Philosophy.
Deputy Registrar for Higher Education and Scholarships Lutfor Rahman Arif will serve as the member secretary of the committee.
The administrative meeting instructed the newly formed committee to submit its investigation report, along with specific recommendations, within the next seven working days.
