Recommended primary asst teachers end protest as govt advances joining date
Candidates will report to district primary education offices on 1 October, with school postings scheduled three days later.
Candidates recommended for appointment as assistant teachers in government primary schools staged a sit-in at the capital's Shahbagh today (2 August) until the government brought forward their joining date and agreed to their key demands.
The protest began around 11am in front of the National Museum under heavy police presence, with demonstrators demanding that the government complete their appointments by August, UNB reports.
A total of 14,384 candidates were recommended for appointment following the government primary school assistant teacher recruitment examination held on 9 January this year. Although the recruitment process has been completed, they have yet to receive their appointment letters.

The candidates had earlier demanded that the government issue the appointment notification by 29 July. When no such order was issued, they launched the sit-in.
On Friday, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education announced that the recommended candidates would join their respective workplaces on 29 October.
However, following the protest, the ministry issued a fresh notice today at around 2pm, bringing forward the joining date to 1 October.
The protesters subsequently withdrew their programme.
