Primary teachers call for pay scale reform, promotions during regional conference in Ctg
Speakers at the event presented their three-point demand to the government and pledged to make the upcoming “grand rally” in Dhaka on 30 August a success

Oikya Parishad, a platform of primary school assistant teachers, has called for pay scale reform and promotions during a divisional conference held today (12 July).
The Chattogram divisional representative conference, which was held at the Kamrul Islam Siddique Auditorium in the LGED Building in Chattogram, convened to press for three major demands, including the implementation of the 11th pay grade for assistant teachers.
The event was presided over by the Divisional President of the organisation, Abdur Rahman, with the Central President, Shamsuddin Masud, attending as the chief guest.
Speakers at the event presented their three-point demand to the government and pledged to make the upcoming "grand rally" in Dhaka on 30 August a success.
The three-point demand includes - recognising the assistant teacher post as an "entry-level" position and placing it under the 11th pay grade, resolving complications related to higher grade eligibility after 10 and 16 years of service, and ensuring 100% promotion to the post of headteacher and expediting the promotion process.
Speakers at the event expressed dissatisfaction over the current 13th grade salary for assistant teachers, saying it is inadequate in the face of rising inflation and the cost of living.
During the programme, they warned that if the demands are not met, a tougher movement would follow, with divisional-level demonstrations in the pipeline.
The conference was conducted by JM Tawhid Hossain and Md Nazim Uddin, while Monsur Alam Chowdhury, member secretary of the Conference Preparatory Committee, delivered the welcome address.
