KUET clash: Students lock up VC, announce class, exam boycott over five-point demand
The developments come following a clash between activists of Jatiotabadi Chatradal and Kuet students on the campus earlier on the day after Chatradal activists reportedly distributed recruitment forms
A group of protesting students at the Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) have locked up the institution's Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammad Mashud and announced a class and examinations boycott programme seeking the implementation of their five demands, including a ban on student politics on the campus.
"The VC is being kept locked up inside a room in the university. The students said they will not let him out till he announces his resignation," Our Khulna correspondent reports.
The developments come following a clash between activists of Jatiotabadi Chatradal and Kuet students on the campus earlier on the day after Chatradal activists reportedly distributed recruitment forms.
The protesting students' five-point demand includes the punishment for those who attacked them during the clash, and the resignation of the vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor, and director of Student Welfare, according to a press statement issued on Tuesday night (18 February).

"An ordinance should be issued stating that no university student, teacher, officer, or employee can be directly or indirectly involved in any politics, and failing to do so will result in the lifelong expulsion of teachers, officers, and employees and the cancellation of students' student status," reads the press statement.
It states that the second demand is that the KUET administration file a case of attempted murder and sabotage against those - including students, teachers, officials and employees - involved in the attack on students on Tuesday. Those involved in the attack must be expelled and their studentship must be cancelled the studentship.
The list of those involved will be provided by the protesting students themselves, the press statement adds.
They also sought deployment of military forces on the campus for the safety of students till 28 February.
Furthermore, they demanded that the KUET administration must bear the medical expenses of all those injured in the attack. The list of injured people will be provided by the students.
They gave an ultimatum to meet their demands by 1:00 on Wednesday (19 February).
They will not participate in any class or examination till their demands are met, the statement reads.
