IUB students win 3MT Competition Bangladesh 2025
A team of final-year undergraduate students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), has won the 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition Bangladesh 2025.
The competition was held on 12 October 2025 through a virtual platform coordinated from Dhaka by Elite Research Lab LLC.
The winning team, Team THREE, comprised Yousra Tabassum, Nusrat Sultana and Anika Islam, representing IUB's Center for Computational and Data Sciences (CCDS). The team advanced through the poster submission, recorded presentation and live virtual presentation stages to secure first place.
Team THREE presented research titled "Segment Anything Model 2 (SAM 2) for accurate flood detection in remote sensing imagery", which was published in the 2024 IEEE Computer Society conference proceedings through CEII-2024 in Singapore. The research was supervised by Dr Ashraful Islam, director of CCDS and assistant professor in the Department of CSE at IUB.
The competition attracted 238 teams at the initial stage, where participants submitted one-page graphical slides following the official 3MT template. Of them, 52 teams advanced to the video presentation round, while 14 teams reached the final stage for live virtual presentations and a two-minute question-and-answer session with the panel.
Organisers said the achievement reflects CCDS's continued engagement in national research platforms and the active participation of undergraduate CSE students in academic competitions.
