HSC 2025: Madrasah board tops all with 75.61% pass rate, Technical sees strong 62.67%
Despite the national drop, the specialised education boards demonstrated superior results compared to their general counterparts

The results of the 2025 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations revealed a sharp decline in the overall pass rate. Despite the national drop, the specialised education boards demonstrated superior results with the Madrasah Education Board registering the highest overall pass rate at 75.61%, and the Technical Education Board achieved a strong pass rate of 62.67%.
The overall pass rate fell to 58.83% across 11 education boards, a significant drop of 18.95% from the 77.78% recorded last year.
The performance breakdown across the general education boards highlighted a considerable regional disparity in student success.
A total of 7,26,960 students successfully passed the exams, but success rates varied widely among the general boards, contributing to the overall decline.
Last year, in the Alim examination under the Madrasah Board, the pass rate had significantly increased to 93.40%, up from 2023's 90.75%.
A total of 85,558 students from 2,683 madrasahs participated in this year's Alim examination, with 79,909 students passing, including 42,793 boys and 37,116 girls. The number of madrasah students achieving the highest grade, GPA-5, had risen as well, with 9,613 students earning GPA-5 this year compared to 7,097 last year and 9,423 in 2022.
Meanwhile, cut to this year, across the general education criteria, the Dhaka Education Board topped the HSC and equivalent examinations with a 64.62% pass rate while Cumilla saw the lowest pass rate of 48.86%.
Dhaka was closely followed by the Barishal Board at 62.57%, and the Rajshahi Board at 59.40%, indicating a relatively better performance in these regions.
However, for several other boards, the pass rates struggled to cross the 55% threshold. The Cumilla Board recorded the lowest at 48.86% with Jashore Board also struggling at 50.20%.
The Sylhet Board also reported a low success rate of 51.86% as Mymensingh Board achieved 51.54%, and the Chattogram Board finished slightly higher at 52.57%.
